Q: What is Spanish language coaching?

A: Spanish55 Language Coaching is a blend of language teaching and training together with principles and ethics of what is commonly known as coaching practices.

Language coaching starts from the basis of a complete transmission of language knowledge; for this to occur, all members of the Spanish55 team have a strong grammatical and theoretical background of the Spanish and English language.

Q: Can you tailor a program to my needs?

A: Through its proprietary method, Spanish55 adapts every session to the very specific needs of the student. Active listening allows the coach to continuously adjust to the coachee. As professional language coaches, Spanish55 extends traditional language training methods to include an individual’s needs and accomplishments.

Through close observation, a Spanish55 coach is able to continuously provide constructive and impartial feedback on performance. As professional coaches, every member of the Spanish55 team strives to keep the coachee motivated, committed and on track in order to reach previously set goals.

Q: What teaching methods do you use?

A: We use an eclectic method in which we combine approaches that suit our students needs, such as task based, PPP and communicative.

Q: How long is each session?

A: Every session is in the form of a live 55-minute video call with a professional bilingual and bicultural personal coach.

Q: Who is Spanish55?

A: Spanish55 is a team of University languages Professors in a centralized location bringing over 50 years of combined experience.

Q: Will I always be working with the same coach?

A: It is ideal to consistently work with the same coach. However, in certain cases we may recommend alternating coaches depending on your needs. i.e role-playing, accents, speed, vocal colors, etc.

Q: How do you know what coach to pair me with?

A: We encourage all new students to complete a personality test and share the results with us. This will help us know you on a deeper level and pair you up with a coach that fits your personality.

Q: Are all sessions one-on-one?

A: Yes, our sessions are one-on-one. You will not be afraid to make mistakes and ask questions!

Q: How can I improve my Spanish faster?

A: You are encouraged to share interests or hobbies with your coach. The more we know about you and the things that interests you, the better we’ll be able to tie the material to your topics of interest.

Feel free to ask your coach for recommendations, he/she will be able to point you towards films, audiobooks, magazines, websites, songs, etc.

Q: Can I change my coach if we don’t get along?

A: Should the client be unhappy for any reason with the assigned coach, Spanish55 will do its utmost to rectify the situation, and if necessary to offer a substitute coach within 21 days of the request. Clients will be regularly asked whether they are satisfied with the level of service they are receiving.

Q: Will my new coach know where we left off?

A: Absolutely. Every member of our team is in contact communication, which helps make a smooth transition. In addition, we keep detailed logs of everything that happens during each session making it a lot easier for any professor in our team to properly coach you.

Q: Can I bring my own material to class?

A: Students are encouraged to bring material to class. It’s important to adapt sessions to the student’s interests and needs. If you don’t have material or questions don’t worry, your coach will have plenty of options prepared ahead of time.

Q: Is every coach a native Spanish speaker?

A: Yes, every coach in our team is a native Spanish speaker with excellent Spanish and English-speaking skills.

Q: I’m looking to improve my speaking skills; can you help me?

A: We will focus on your needs at all times. Our method is very different from a traditional more rigid Spanish class; our goal is to help you apply the language as soon as possible.

Q: How is a coach different from a normal Spanish teacher?

A: Your coach will simulate / role-play real life scenarios that will help you comprehend spontaneous situations in Spanish, think in Spanish and answer fluently in the language.

Internally, your Coach keeps a detailed record of everything that happens during a lesson, slips, exercises practiced, areas of improvement, etc. The idea is to target those weaker areas in the lessons to come and build on your strengths to reach each session’s goal.

Q: Is my coach working from home?

A: No, our team works in a centralized physical location to bring quality and consistency in each session. Weekly team meetings guarantee the best service possible. Our coaches are encouraged to brainstorm and share teaching techniques for the benefit of our students.

Q: Can I email my coach directly with questions?

A: You may e-mail us at any time; questions are forwarded to your coach and answered promptly.

Q: Can my coach teach me slang or colloquialisms?

A: Yes, your coach will do his/her best to adapt to the language you want or need to learn. Every session is personalized to the student’s needs, your coach will conduct necessary research in order to adapt the material.

Q: Do you have any age-restrictions for your service?

A: Our service is geared towards adults; however, we are able to work with students age 14-18 as well.

Q: Will I be given homework?

A: Homework can be requested at your convenience. You are encouraged to ask for homework if your schedule permits.

Q: Can I work with a coach if I’ve never taken Spanish lessons?

A: You definitely can! We’ve seen amazing results with students that had never taken Spanish lessons in the past. It’s never too late to start!

Q: Will I need to purchase any additional resources?

A: Spanish55 coaches will use all their own resources, and will not request additional monies from clients for their purchase. However, recommendations of resources may be offered, but the purchasing of these is entirely the client’s own decision, and at their own risk.

Q: Can my coach help me prepare for a presentation in Spanish?

A: Yes! Our team specializes in real-life situations and role-playing. Context and cultural cues play a big role in communication; rest assured your coach has the proper training to help you nail your presentation.

Q: I’m traveling to a Spanish-speaking country, can you help me?

A: We definitely can. Every country Spanish-speaking country is a little different in terms of slang or colloquialisms, rest assured your coach will do proper research to accommodate your needs. Safe travels!

Q: What do I need to do to get started?

A: In order for us to schedule your first coaching session, you will need to complete our pre-session questionnaire. You can find this questionnaire by clicking here or the “Get Started” button on our website.

A: You sure can! We want to make sure you are comfortable and satisfied with our service before you make a payment.

Q: What if I’m not satisfied with my session?

A: At Spanish55 we strive for 100% student satisfaction. We will do everything in our hands to make the most out of each session and keep our students engaged. However, if you are not 100% satisfied with our service you may ask for a refund at any point.

A: Our policy is simple; if you are not satisfied with our service you will get your money back. We keep an eye on every student to make sure we’re meeting and exceeding expectations at all times.

A: Spanish55 will not sell, rent or distribute any clients’ personal information to any third parties. Coaches agree to hold confidential information about clients as securely as possible, and will not sell, rent or distribute clients’ personal information to any third parties.

Q: Are coaching sessions recorded?

A: Spanish55 reserves the right to record and analyze every session. Recordings will be kept private for internal use only.

Q: What happens if my coach is late for a session?

A: If a Coach is late more than 5 minutes for a session, Spanish55 will offer a full refund and the session will still take place if client chooses to continue.

Q: Can you send me a reminder on the days I have a session scheduled?

A: We are happy to send text message reminders directly to your cell phone 2 –hours prior to your session.

Q: What happens if I’m late to my session?

A: If the client is late for a session, the lesson will only run until the usual end time, and be charged at the usual price.

Q: What happens if I don’t show up to my session?

A: Sessions cancelled (or where a client fails to show up) with less than 24 hours’ notice, client will be assessed at the regular session fee.

Technical Questions

Q: Are all the sessions on Skype?

A: Yes, all sessions are live on Skype. This convenient method allows students to learn from the comfort of their home, office or neighborhood cafe. It is advisable to use a PC or Mac in order to use all of Skype’s features like file sharing and chat.

Q: What mobile devices are compatible with Skype?

Q: I’ve never used Skype or computers in general will this be a problem?

A: Absolutely not, our customer service team will be happy to assist you over the phone until we get everything working. Skype is very user-friendly and no experience is necessary.

Q: What happens if I experienced technical difficulties during my session?

A: If this ever happens, we will be happy to issue a refund. It’s important to let us know if you anticipate any technical difficulties. Feel free to reach out; we’re here to help.

Q: Do I need a Webcam?

A: Having a webcam on your device is a big plus; however, not absolutely necessary. If you don’t have a webcam, you will always have the ability to hear and see your coach live.

Q: Do I need a microphone?

A: Yes, you will need a microphone. Most devices nowadays have built-in microphones. If you are not sure if yours has one or not just let us know, we’ll be happy to look into it.

Payment Questions

Q: What forms of payment are accepted?

A: When receiving your invoice you can choose to pay with any of the payment types that PayPal supports. These include credit and debit cards, bank transfers, eChecks, PayPal payments, and PayPal Credit instant financing.

By the way, you are not required to have a PayPal account to complete your payment.

Q: Do I pay before or after taking my sessions?

A: All sessions for the month are paid in advance. This allows your coach to plan ahead and make sure you stay on track. Consistency and dedication play a big role in language learning.

A: Yes, with close to 200 million active users PayPal is one of the safest payments methods out there.

Q: When will I be billed or invoiced?

A: You will receive an invoice once you complete your complimentary session, get any questions answered and figure out your ideal schedule with a customer service representative.

Q: I’ve received an invoice, how do I complete payment?

A: 1) Open your email, read the invoice, and see the PayPal payment button

Q: Can I get a discount for committing to a long-term coaching?

A: We work on a case-by-case basis. We will adjust to your schedule and budget as much as possible. 6-month, 12-month and custom plans are available and eligible for a discount.

Scheduling Questions

Q: Can I schedule my sessions in advance?

A: Sessions are scheduled a month in advance; this guarantees your spot in our calendars. We offer a month-to-month option with no long-term commitment. 4-sessions / month minimum.

Q: How many sessions per week should I be taking?

A: After your first complimentary session, your coach will give you a recommendation in regards to the number of sessions per week you should be taking.

This recommendation will be based on your level of comfort with the language, personal goals and timeframe to achieve those goals. On average our students take 2-4 sessions per week.

Q: Why are sessions scheduled so far out?

A: We offer a very personalized service, for this to work your coach needs to plan ahead at least 4 weeks out.

Q: Can you work around my schedule?

A: Yes, we do our best to work around your schedule. Our first session of the day is at 7:00 am PST while the last session of the day is at 9:00 pm PST.

Q: Can I schedule my Spanish sessions on the weekends?

A: Spanish55 is open Monday-Saturday. 7am-9pm PST.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel a class?

A: When cancelling an already confirmed session with 24+ hours' notice, student is subject to a charge of 50% of the price paid for that session.

Q: Can I re-schedule a session?

A: When re-scheduling a session with 24+ hours' notice, Spanish55 agrees to do reasonable efforts to provide the services at a more convenient time at no additional fee to the client. It is required to schedule that session in the same month; ‘credits’ do not rollover to the following month.
