José Isidro Jacobo Sánchez, affectionately known as Jacob, is a language coach and online Spanish teacher whose diverse background and dynamic approach to education distinguish him from the ordinary. Born in the gargantuan Mexico City and raised for over a decade in Painesville, Ohio, Jacob's life is a rich mix of cultures that deeply inform his teaching approach.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in International Business from Universidad LaSalle, as well as an ICELT certification—a qualification for experienced English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers provided by Cambridge English.
Yet, it's his warm demeanor and infectious humor that make his lessons genuinely memorable, as consistently noted by his students, including Courtney Radford (we highly recommend reading her inspiring story here).

Jacob's journey into teaching began at the young age of 17 when his fascination with the English language first took root. The global upheaval of the Covid-19 pandemic presented a pivotal moment, leading him to transition from English to
online Spanish classes. This switch both ignited his passion and allowed him to embrace a flexible, work-from-home lifestyle. He reflects,

"Teaching Spanish is profoundly fulfilling; it's not merely about language instruction but sharing the depths of a culture that's intricately part of who I am."

Jacob's favorite pastime, weightlifting, mirrors the discipline he ingrains in his students. He parallels the principles of his fitness regimen—goal setting, embracing challenges, and overcoming setbacks—with language acquisition.

"Each workout, just like each class session, is about pushing past your limits," Jacob articulates.

This mindset helps his students navigate the complexities of
Spanish grammar and pronunciation with unwavering determination and grit.

Moreover, Jacob has channeled his expertise in business administration into a thriving personal venture—a Mexican breakfast restaurant. Since 2021, his business not only complements his lifestyle teaching for Spanish55 but also serves as a testament to the practical application of his academic and professional experiences. His role in managing the restaurant by morning and teaching Spanish the rest of the day exemplifies a well-rounded and industrious life.

Living in the United States for a decade gave Jacob a unique perspective on the transformative power of bilingualism.

"Being bilingual is like viewing the world through a dual lens. It opens up a spectrum of opportunities that enrich your life and broaden your perspectives," he shares.

His connection to his students, particularly those from the U.S., is deepened by shared cultural experiences, while his pride in his Mexican heritage enriches his classes with authentic insights. He now lives in León, Guanajuato, a beautiful colonial town near San Miguel de Allende.

Jacob treasures the stories of how his students apply their new language skills in transformative ways—navigating career advancements, forging profound relationships, and even experiencing life-changing travels and community engagements.

"Each success story reaffirms the value of what we do. It's not just about language; it's about connection and transformation," he reflects.

Jacob's inspiration comes from his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work and discipline—qualities that he sees reflected in his students. "My favorite learning stories are those of transformation. I've seen students change their residences, start unexpected friendships, and even change their careers—all through the power of language," he says with pride.

At Spanish55, Jacob's connection with each student goes beyond the classroom. He adapts to their personalities, making each class unique and effective. Beyond being a mentor and coach, he is a clear example of how embracing culture and language can open doors to new worlds, fostering mutual respect and understanding.

Through his work, Jacob empowers his students to explore and engage with diverse communities, inspiring them with the confidence to explore and thrive in a connected world. This personal connection and dedication to his students foster a sense of belonging and trust in his coaching, which he only truly learned to instill in others by actually living life.

That vast library of experiences, coupled with his warmth, humor, and knowledge, allow him to make a permanent mark in his students' minds and hearts, as they are quick to say when asked. Who wouldn’t want an online Spanish teacher that could, in time, become a friend? That’s the lucky part of being Jacob’s student: you get the best of both worlds—literally.
