Where would you like to go on your next vacation? You might be looking to spend a few days near the beach and under the sun, or maybe a modern city full of restaurants, shopping malls, and high-rise buildings. If you haven't made up your mind yet, we would like to recommend you 5 destinations in Mexico that we think you should consider for your next trip.

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato

This romantic colonial city is located in central Mexico. Its name derives from two important historical figures: Juan de San Miguel, a 16th-century friar, and Ignacio Allende, one of the leaders of Mexico's war for independence, born in this city back in 1769.

San Miguel de Allende is a place full of well-preserved history, colorful traditions and buildings, and culinary delights. While walking around San Miguel, the colonial architecture and cobblestone walkways will surround you and make it impossible to look in only one direction.

When in the city, you must visit the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, a 19th Century neo-gothic church and the most iconic place in town. Everything happens around it: live music, religious ceremonies, dance performances, and more.

San Miguel de Allende is a place for everyone, with activities for every kind of visitor. Check out Coyote Canyon Adventures; they can offer you different adventure packages that will perfectly suit your needs as a traveler, including horseback riding excursions, archaeological and cultural tours, and extreme outdoor activities.

Jalcomulco, Veracruz

Located in the eastern side of the country, this state has a significant share of the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, and it has a long and interesting story since it's the place where Spanish conquistadors first landed.

Like almost every city in Mexico, Veracruz has a beautiful historic downtown, a colorful place where you can walk around and not get bored; the architecture, museums, restaurants and local artwork will keep you busy for hours. This area is known as the "old" part of the city, while Boca del R?o is the new one, where you'll find shopping centers and fancy restaurants and cafes. Even though they seem different, both have welcoming people, a friendly ambiance, traditional music performances, artistic events and more.

Veracruz also offers eco-tourism activities that will suit everyone. Jalcomulco is a small town with beautiful landscapes where you can practice extreme sports such as zipline, rafting, rappel and many more; but if you're looking for something tamer, there's also camping under the starry sky and walks around the forest. Our friends at Armonia Rafting can give you a long list of extreme (yet safe) activities to choose from.

Tulum, Quintana Roo

There's no comparison for the beaches in the Riviera Maya and their warm, turquoise waters. Let's be honest. When thinking about the perfect beach spot, the Caribbean Sea is the first thing that pops in our minds, right?

Tulum has national and international recognition, and every year this place is visited by travelers from all over the world. One of the main advantages of a place like the Yucatán peninsula is that it's filled with cenotes, which are natural and safe-to-swim sinkholes that expose groundwater underneath.

Every day you'll see people riding bikes from one place to another. For at least a day, try it out! Riding a bike in Tulum will give you the chance to see every corner of this place without spending extra money for transportation. Besides, it's a great way to get a tan and enjoy the weather.

If we could name every activity that you can practice in Tulum, this article would never end. Let our friends from Out & About Mexico tell you everything you can do! They offer amazing tours to enjoy the zone's archaeological sites, have extreme adventures in the jungle or swim in the most amazing beaches.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas

This city is the heart of one of Mexico's most deeply rooted indigenous areas, which is, in fact, one of the reasons that make this place unique and beautiful. If someone asks us how we can describe San Cristóbal de las Casas with one word, it would definitely be "magical".

Surrounded by green mountains, this city will give you a thousand reasons to never leave. Walking around San Cristóbal's cobbled streets and colorful old buildings is the best way to soak up all of this place's amazing vibrations. In the morning you can try a typical homegrown coffee at any local café, which we're sure you'll love. In the afternoon you can visit the Iglesia de Guadalupe to have the best view of the city at sunset, and at night you can walk over to its many bars to try the local liquor and dance to different types of music.

Near San Cristóbal de las Casas you'll find the Cañón del Sumidero, a fascinating canyon that you can explore during a boat ride with an expert on board. As you travel deeper and deeper, you'll notice the canyon walls are "growing". Eventually, they'll tower a thousand meters over you!

You can go here to check out amazing tour options all around Chiapas, including visits to the El Chiflón waterfalls and the Lagunas de Montebello National Park.

Monterrey, Nuevo León

This city is the capital of the northeastern state of Nuevo León. Even though Monterrey is known as an industrial city, it's surrounded by mountains, forests, waterfalls, and caves which are ideal for tours and outdoor sports like hiking, rappelling and bike rides.

No matter how much progress and international industries there are in the city, certain areas still preserve their Mexican spirit and traditions. Your days in this metropolis can be well spent in museums with magnificent artwork on display, shopping malls, restaurants, nightclubs, or enjoying nature.

One of Monterrey's most famous spots is Chipinque Park, just 20 minutes from the city. It's the perfect place to be surrounded by nature and forget about everything. Chipinque has around 80 kilometers of trails for hikers, runners or bikers, and once you finish your route it will give you the chance to admire the breathtaking view of Monterrey from a very high point.

Whether you're looking for extreme outdoor adventures or just typical touristic spots to chill, Monterrey has them all. Ask our friends at Aventureros Extremos for advice on which places you can visit and enjoy their amazing tours and travel packages.
